In a world dominated by technology and a fast paced life style we have the tendency to pay attention only to the sensational. Our attention span is decreasing rapidly. We move from one sensational thing to another until even the sensational becomes mundane.
For us at Bread of Life Orphanage in Brosteni, Romania, every day and every child from our fifteen year history is important, because it fulfills God’s sensational plan for their life. Yes, sometimes our reports come with palpitating situations from which we rescue children and bring them into the orphanage. Other times we have updates on how they are progressing after some time at the orphanage. There are also times like this when we share orphanage needs. Over the last 15 years with a family of many dozens of children there has always been a constant list of needs. Just like with any household some needs are urgent and others can be planned for, but all matter to the family. In a similar way our children’s home in Brosteni needs continuous improvement. God tells us not to worry in Matthew 6:25 “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?” But for all the parents reading this verse we know how hard this is to apply. It comes so natural for us to be consumed taking care of our families, but we are reminded that God is in control and He loves us. We can testify that during all these years of operating BOL, God has been faithful and we have never missed a meal or had our utilities disconnected. There have been hard times but God has taken care of us. What we do is more than just clothing and food. We help the children in a holistic way, preparing them and encouraging them to follow Jesus in eternity. With this in mind, we present the following orphanage need and trust that God will speak to your heart according to His will.
One of our problems relates to the fact that we do not have a large enough space that is suitable for all the children to have outside recreation and relaxation time. The local office of the Child Protective Services has asked us to remedy this situation. In Brosteni it is cold and rainy for a good part of the year, making our small outside area muddy. This makes having outside activities for all our children difficult. Trying to take the children elsewhere to expend energy can be difficult and dangerous for both children and staff. Reaching the closest play area involves a 15 minute walk that includes crossing a national highway. We desire to meet the request of CPS and bless the children with a multi-purpose activity area in front of the orphanage. We desire a large dedicated area without mud that would include tables, benches, and even some play equipment. This would help the children release their energy in a safe environment where we can watch over them. We have recently cleared some old buildings from our property and this gives us additional space to construct a multi-purpose area large enough to accommodate all of the children.
This project will be a great blessing for our children, and other poor children in the local community will also have access to this area. We need to begin this project soon, and make sure we do not miss any of the children’s urgent needs. Daily we pray that God will provide and bless them with a “Safe Haven” for play. We try not to worry, and are thoughtfully doing all we can to make sure the children grow up in a family setting and not an institution. We all love them and want to show that love through this project.
