Meals on Wheels
One of our goals at Bread of Life is not only to feed the helpless and hungry but also to break the cycle of poverty and abuse. When children are left with no one to protect or care for them they learn to steal and i
n time abuse others. Sadly they often grow up to be people who return evil for good. Through the programs we run for the children at the orphanage we teach the children to return good for good. The ultimate goal is that they will grow up to be men and women who follow the words and example of Jesus and even return good for evil.
One of the most effective programs we have for the children is called Meals On Wheels. Unlike most programs in the US that use this name for us “wheels” refers to the wheels of a bicycle. Our cooks and older girls prepare and package meals in the orphanage kitchen. The older boys then deliver this food to poor elderly people on their bicycles. We continue this program even in the cold of winter. We also share with them vegetables from our garden and dried food supplies from our pantry. Imagine the joy and relief these elderly feel when the boys ride up on their bikes with smiling faces and give them a delicious meal. We know of no better way to practice and spread the gospel for the young and old.
